Story |
It's a simple story. At Bhadrachalam, a young man Balu (Manoj Kumar) swears on Lord Sri Rama and his father that he will come back only after he becomes a great singer. Balu comes to Hyderabad and starts living in a house opposite to Capt. Rao's (Mohan Babu) house. Balu and Capt. Rao doesn't like each other. Balu gets a chance to participate in Gemini Music competitions. At that time Rao's friend (Suman's) daughter Shravya (Tapsee) comes to Rao's house from foreign. She intends to make a documentary on our traditional music. For that she requires a guide who is well acquainted with traditional music. On coming to know that Balu has good knowledge of traditional music, she appoints Balu as her guide, though Rao doesn't like it. In return Shravya financially helps Balu to buy musical instruments. They start liking each other. Rao, who is also one of the selectors in the competition, comes to know of this and asks Balu to forget Shravya, if he wants to participate in the music competition. Balu agrees to Rao's terms. Why Balu swore on God in his village...? Have Balu and Shravya's succeeded in love...? Did Rao accept their love...? Whether Balu wins in the competition and proves himself a great singer...., is to be seen on the silver screen.

Analysis |
The movie starts with its producer Laxmi Prasanna's narration about a boy named Balu. The capabilities of director Raghavendra Rao, who has directed more than a hundred movies can not be doubted. It is quite appreciable that he has tried to remind us of our declining cultural values and traditions. But, the intensity with which Bullabbai (Aahuthi Prasad) tries to dissuade Balu from becoming a singer, doesn't look relevant. Similarly, the sequence in which Suman criticizes Mohan Babu's character, makes us feel like something is amiss in the flick. That's because, we come to know only that Mohan babu's son runs away from home, but why he did that remains a mystery forever. Now coming to its heroine Tapsee, it can be said that, she had been quite capable of making the present genre youth sleepless. Raghavendra Rao shown her beauty in such a way and she also exhibited her assets too glamorously. The director, as usual, has used all his old techniques in moving the movie forward. Only, this time he used coconut-halves instead of fruits and flowers in picturising songs, which is a feast in itself for the eyes of the audience. Songs "sakkagunnav ro na sotta sempaloda..." and "Korikesela chustunte...nigraham" are exceptionally good.

TeluguOne Perspective |
Acting: There is nothing new to tell about Dr. Mohan Babu's acting talents, but it can be said that the role he played in this movie is certainly not befitting to him. However, since it is his home production, he might have agreed to do it. Manoj's talents have shone bright with this movie. What he needs most is, a voice like his father. If he makes use of that voice with better modulation in future, he may overtake his father on screen. Manoj has shown a lot of improvement in timely changing his facial expressions in this movie. He performed dances and fights be liking to the present genre youth. To tell about Tapsee, it is sufficient to say that even before this flick's release, she got cast in three movies and such magnificent beauty she is. If she works hard, she can rule the roost in cine industry in future. Others too performed well to the extent of their roles.
Music: In the present generation music directors, Keeravani is the one who still keeps the lyrics from getting entirely engulfed by the orchestra. Already the flick's audio is a big hit in the market. The audience will mainly like the songs "sarigama padani sapthaswara sangeetha sudha..." and "sakkagunnavro na sotta sempaloda...". In re-recording.. in the scene where Manoj rushes upstairs to seek permission of Mohan babu for to participate in the competition, the using of "Janta-swaras" are timely and melodious. There are more instances like this in the movie.
Camera: Senior cameraman S. Gopala Reddy has done an excellent job for this movie.
Dialogues: Not so impressive, though at times some double-meaning phrases are encountered, are mainly to the liking of mass audience. Some are catchy, like... "abalatho tabala", "nigrahinchukodaniki bathroom lokelli ganta sepunna.. enduku ante...shower kinda snaanam chesthu..." and " paanakam ante italian breezer...".
Lyrics: Literally, first song "sarigamapadani sapthaswara sangeetha sudha", a lullaby and marriage songs are good.
Editing: Good.
Choreography: The concept of lifting both the hero and heroine into the air in a song is good. Choreography wise other songs are also good.
Fights: Good.
Whoever has respect for our culture and traditions, will like this movie. It can be watched once along with family happily.
